Within the Turkic family of languages, Salar belongs to the Salar subgroup of the larger Oghuz subgroup of the Common Turkic subfamily.
It is spoken by 70 thousand people primarily in Qinghai, Gansu of China.
Salar is official in China: Xunhua Salar, Jishishan Bonan Dongxiang and Salar.
