Within the Turkic family of languages, Khakas belongs to the Altai-Yenisei branch of the South Siberian subgroup of the larger Siberian subgroup of the Common Turkic subfamily.
It is spoken by 75 thousand people primarily in Khakassia of Russia, as well as in China and Ukraine.
