Longing and frustration are very well put together by Asya in a love song in Chuvash we considered very intersting for Turkic Lyrics.
Despite the pain there’s overwhelming desire for closeness. The idea is presented here in a simple yet expressive style. Simple declaratives sentences in present will help learn several common verbs: to fear, to love, to approach etc. The grammar is simple, take the root morpheme add -at/et and the personal suffix -ăn/ĕn “you”, or -ăp/ĕp “I”. The song is compared to Turkish in which the present indefinite is formed with the same but diverging affixes: -ar/er/ir and -sın/sin or -ım/im.
Here are some very similar phrases and words.
- chv. манран хăратăн (manran hăratăn) = tr. Benden korkarsın. Man “me” + ran “from” hăra “fear” + (a)t “present tense” + ăн “you” → you fear me. Notice how Chuvash -t- corresponds to Turkish -r- here. And there are other instances of M corresponding to B.
- chv. cана чунтан саватăп (sana cuntan savatăp) = tr. seni candan severim “I love deeply”. San “you” + a “accusative case” + cun “soul” + tan “ablative case” + sav “love” + at “present tense” + ăp “I”. Note that both Chuvash and Turkish both use this Persian loanword Cun or Can for “soul”. We already meantioned how -a- turned into -u- in the first syllable. And linguists think it was a reletively recent trend, which stopped some centuries ago. And Cun/Can is one of the words that prove the point as it was borrowed back when Persian was very widespread.
- chv. Ăмăрткайăк (ămărtkajăk) = simurg geyik, although the two word are never phrased like this in Turkish. Simurg is also a Persian word, it is used to denote a mythical creature. In a very interesting way the word ended up as a component of ămărtkajăk which means “an eagle”. Kajăk is of the same origin with the Turkish geyik, but in Chuvash it mostly means “a bird” (also “a beast), and in Turkish “a deer”.
- chv. путатăп (putatăp) = tr. batarım ‘I drown”. Chuvash first syllable -u- most often corresponds to Turkish -a-.
Yet again, one cannot help but marvel at the intricacies of language evoltion. This composition by Asya is more than just a quirky love song, it transcends mere words mixing up centuries of contact and the complexities of linguistic evolution. We ranked the level of similarity at %71.
How do you feel about the comparison, let us know.

You Are Mine
Why don’t you look into my eyes?
Why are you afraid of me?
You come close to me,
Then you run away from me.
I’m constantly searching for you,
I’m drowning in your eyes.
“Only you I love with all my heart”
I will look into your eyes and say
You are mine, I know it.
I will get to you.
I feel sad, cause you keep playing games
Why do you chose to burn my heart?
Why don’t you just extend your hand to me
And take me to far away places?
You enchant me with your smile
Ultimately, you’ll be with me
Constantly on my mind
Welcome me and embrace me
Hold me tight, embrace me
Keep saying “I love you”
I’ll wait for you for days
My heart beats only for you
I’ll open up my heart only for you
I get sad without you
You’ll embrace me sincerely
You give me strength to live
I feel it, I hope
You’ll carry me like an eagle
Why don’t you just extend your hand to me
And take me to far away places?
You enchant me with your smile
Ultimately, you’ll be with me
Constantly on my mind
Welcome me and embrace me
Hold me tight, embrace me
Keep saying “I love you”
Why don’t you just extend your hand to me
You enchant me with your smile
Constantly on my mind
Hold me tight, embrace me
Keep saying “I love you”
